“THE DONNA” aka “The spring affair”

Birds are singing, spring is springing, and we can think of no better way to celebrate this season of new beginnings than a spirited leap into cheesy optimism. We’re looking at you, goat cynics! Hear us out on this one – because spring is THE season for goat’s cheese. From fresh and citrusy to rich, creamy and mineral, there’s so much more to goat’s cheese than you might think.

The Donna is a celebration of British springtime – English sparkling wine, Cornish plum jam, charcoal crackers handmade in Derbyshire, and two award-winning British takes on some French classics. A spring symphony made for two.

Sinodun Hill

A pyramid of beauty, Sinodun Hill is for goat's cheese lovers and newcomers alike. Under its velvety golden cloak sits a silky smooth layer of pure decadence surrounding a centre of dense, creamy mousse similar to sweet ice cream. Lingering flavours of citrus and nutty milk welcome you back for another mouthful (and another). We’re sure this one is guaranteed to tempt even the hardiest goat-hater.

Pair this with the Pinot Noir Rosé for a rich and decadent combo that’s just the right amount of sweet. Light and bright, this bubbly number from our friends at The Uncommon has hints of lavender and rose petal for added springtime loveliness. Add in the charcoal crackers and Kea plum jam for an unbeatable combo!

Eve

Made in Somerset by goat's cheese specialists White Lake, and sister to our much loved Rachel, Eve is a dainty little cheese washed in Somerset cider brandy and wrapped in vine leaves. A great alternative to the classic French Banon, it’s fresh and slightly citric with just a touch of nuttiness. As it ages, it develops deeper nuttiness and a hint of caramel sweetness; depending on when you eat it, it’s two cheeses wrapped into one.

We found the plummy sweetness of the Kea Plum Jam to be a perfect match for the creamy inner and the fermented fruit from the cider brandy wash. Think berries and cream with a touch of booziness and a subtle goaty twist. Try this one with the Bacchus for a sparkling finish that fizzes with elderflower and freshly cut grass.

condiments

At The Cheese Geek we favour quality over quantity, so there's no long list here of every condiment under the sun, only the ones we believe to be the very best. There's something for every type of cheese and in the case of Cloudberry Jam, it doubles up as a great topping for vanilla ice cream. Who knew.
