So called Super Tuscans took the world by storm less than half a century ago. Led by the likes of Sassicaia and Ornellaia, they are wines based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot rather than the local Sangiovese. Controversial to start with, they have become accepted and embraced and are stunning wines. Siete Cieli has vines bordering Sassicaia and the wines are a fraction of the price. Winemaker Elena Pozzolini is a rising superstar of the region and it's easy to see why with this wonderfully seductive red wine. Just bursting with cassis and pure berry fruit, it is stylish, sleek and voluptuous with an earthy tobacco note and ripe fine tannins. A proper winter warmer.
